We strongly suggest you shut down your computer and unplug both the power and any ethernet connections. We also recommend this same step for any personal router and printer. These devices can still be plugged into each other, but any wall or outlet connections should be left unplugged. In lieu of unplugging everything, always be sure to use a good electrical surge protector with network and/or telephone line protection so all external copper based connections are protected. This means printers or other items should be plugged into a surge strip as well. If they are not, they should be unplugged, especially during seasonal thunderstorms, since this is where the majority of damage occurs. Realize it is also a VERY good idea to move unprotected valuables (laptops, gaming stations, iPods, etc.) out of plain view. Every break has it's own security hazards and these are prime targets, whether they are in your car or in your apartment.
