If your PC can connect directly to an Ethernet outlet and access the Internet but you are having issues getting your personal router to connect, we suggest you configure your router to handle MAC address cloning. Most router's handle this as part of their software capabilities.

Step 1:

First, get the MAC address of your connected PC's network card and write it down.

For MAC and Windows PC's, we've written a step-by-step here . For Windows Vista users, use this link .

Step 2:

LOGIN to your router by connecting the PC to one of the ports labeled 1-4 (DO NOT CONNECT THE WAN OR INTERNET PORT TO THE WALL OUTLET YET).

Some routers have a CLONE MY PC's MAC ADDRESS, some make you manually enter it in. The first screen below shows the WAN MAC ADDRESS for the Linksys router. Click the ADVANCED tab at the top and enter in your PC's  MAC address you discovered in Step 1 in the "USER DEFINED MAC ADDRESS". Now save and apply your setting and connect the router to the Ethernet connection, make sure you use the WAN or INTERNET connection on the router, and reboot the router.

UVa Targeted by RIAA

As reported by the Daily Progress (full article here ), seven users on the UVa network have been targeted by the RIAA for illegal music download files.

 The University of Virginia tracks which user uses each IP address at any given time (just like we do). As a result, they are able to forward these warnings on to the actual user(s) that downloaded the files.  If the users do not "settle", they may find themselves the targetof a lawsuit.

 We ask that if you have not actually "bought" a song or movie, that you not download it so we don't have to forward these same letters on to you.
